On 9th November 2025, Development Action Society and Kawtha Koi Foundation collaborated on a field visit to Chatua village in the Sundarbans, with a visit to Chatua Primary School. A menstrual hygiene awareness workshop was conducted by Kawtha Koi Foundation for women from the Chatua area, with the participation of approximately twenty-five women.
During the visit, discussions were also held on the effective utilisation of the Chatua Primary School premises for community-based initiatives. In addition, potential sites in the surrounding area were explored to assess their feasibility for the development of elderly care facilities, with a view to the optimal use of local resources and long-term community benefit.
The collaboration further explored the potential of developing awareness tourism in the region—an approach that thoughtfully integrates learning, community engagement, and responsible travel. Such initiatives could offer visitors meaningful exposure to local life, health awareness practices, ecological sensitivity, and social development efforts, while simultaneously creating avenues for livelihood generation and knowledge exchange within the community. Through this creative model, tourism may serve not merely as recreation, but as a tool for consciousness, empathy, and sustainable development.
